WORSHIP
Worship is losing oneself totally in adoration to something or a deity. Worship is a combination of two phrases; worthy and ship. Worship is showing or expressing worth. Worship is not a natural word, but that doesn't make it only for believers.
The truth is that there are unbelievers who worship even much more than the believers. But the case is what or who do they worship?
Now imagine this, if John 4:23-24 talks about an acceptable worship, that tells us that there is a kind of worship that isn't acceptable.
Verse 24 says; God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
So that takes us straight to the fact that as believers we worship in spirit and in truth and unbelievers, worship in flesh and in lies.
THE ACCEPTABLE WORSHIP
Worship names what matters most: the way human beings are created to reflect God's glory by embodying God's character in lives that seek righteousness and do justice. Such comprehensive worship redefines all we call ordinary. Worship turns out to be the dangerous act of waking up to God and to the purposes of God in the world, and then living lives that actually show it.
I was in a mid-week program yesterday and this same topic was brought up. After getting other views on worship, i got to realize that worship is loosing yourself to God in adoration of his name. Now in my comprehension due to the working of the Holy spirit, I'll split the differences between the two conditions of an acceptable worship as stated in John 4:24.
WORSHIP IN SPIRIT: Now lets move forward to a scripture in the bible; John 6:63; it is the spirit that quickens, the flesh profits nothing. The WORDS that i speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life. A major part of the world if not all, believes that there is power and a spiritual backup in every word spoken by man.
God created the world as we know, and he said that every word he speaks are spirits. If the same God tells us that we must worship in SPIRIT and in truth for its acceptability, then he definitely means we must worship in his WORD. Therefore, worshiping in the spirit means living the word. It might sound foul, like; how can you say you are worshiping God by just living the word? Pastor Yinka Owoju once said and i quote that 'the simplicity of the kingdom of God has made "to-be mighty" men fall in their tender ages'.
Worship in the spirit is simply living the word.
WORSHIP IN TRUTH: Now this is where worship turns out to be the dangerous act of waking up to God and to the purposes of God in the world, and then living lives that actually show it. John 8:31,32. The knowledge of the truth comes from the word. Holding Fast and abiding in Gods word is literally living in the giving truth of the word.
Now lets take for instance, if you are in sickness, seeing the truth in the word that says in Joel 3:10b 'let the weak say i [am] strong' and living to be strong even in weakness, is an act of worship to God. So friends, worship is not just a normal Sunday service program done during the 'praise and worship' section, or its not just about singing and lifting up holy hands. I have taken time to illuminate your minds on worship being a lifestyle and not just a spiritual act.
Now, I'll close with this; Worship is you giving God the first place in your heart before any other thing. Yesterday, my teacher and mentor; Architect Chidi made me understand that the Holy spirit is a personalty of Worship to God. He never does and will never do what he wants to do, but what God wants. John 16:13. So worship to God, just like the Holy spirit, is forgetting about what you want and placing your hearts fully to what God wants.
